Integrated Digital Nuclear Design Programme

The Digital Reactor Design Programme is a Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) funded as part of a UK government research programme with the aim of developing the first stages towards an Integrated Nuclear Digital Environment (INDE) which will:

  • Develop a digital integrated framework to support future nuclear reactor build – design through to decommissioning
  • Provide a safe environment for scenario planning
  • Allow access for the non-nuclear community

To demonstrate that the concept of an Integrated Nuclear Digital Environment (INDE) is:

  • Feasible
  • Acceptable to the nuclear community
  • Sufficiently credible to develop and support a Community of Practice for the future
  • Able to position the UK as leading in digital reactor design

The Virtual Engineering Centre will be working closely with specialist researchers at University of Liverpool’s Institute for Risk and Uncertainty and Department of Engineering and in collaboration with fellow project partners Wood PLC (formerly Amec Foster Wheeler), National Nuclear Laboratory, EDF Energy, Rolls Royce, Cambridge University, Imperial College and the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Hartree Centre.
